Academic Updates from Interim Provost Debbie Norris

The spring semester has presented many extraordinary circumstances for MC's students, faculty, and staff as a result of the outbreak of the COVID-19. But through all of the difficult decisions and disappointments, we’re working hard to continue our mission. MC is committed to doing everything we can to make sure that you can move forward with your academic goals.

Outlined below are a number of updates about the remainder of the spring semester and the May term.

  • Final Exams
All final exams will be conducted online. MC instructors will be in touch with their students to explain how exams will be structured and conducted.

  • Study Abroad
Unfortunately, all study abroad programs for the summer of 2020 have been canceled. This was a difficult decision, but as of today, there is no way to predict when local governments will lift quarantines and travel restrictions abroad.

If you paid a deposit for an MC study abroad program, that amount will be credited to your student account. If you have already purchased airfare, please contact the airline directly. The airline will be able to cancel your flight and issue a refund or voucher for later use.

If you have additional questions, please contact Dr. Beth Stapleton, director of the McMillan Center for Education Abroad, at 601.925.3976 or stapleto@mc.edu.

  • May Term
All courses offered during the May mini-semester will take place online.

  • Summer School
MC has not yet decided whether summer classes will take place on-campus or online.

  • Summer Camps
LifeWay has canceled summer camps normally held on campus in June. A decision about camps in July has yet to be decided. MC has not yet decided if summer athletic camps normally held on campus in June and July will take place.

  • Registering for Summer or Fall Classes with a Balance Due
MC understands these are uncertain times. The university does not want economic uncertainty or hardship to keep our students from returning to MC.

As uncertain as the upcoming weeks may be, I know we will persevere. We will get through this and come out stronger.

Take care, stay healthy, and safe.
